Property Appraiser
Salary: $49,000 - $60,000 + benefits

A full-time technical position within Flint Township’s Assessment Department, under the supervision of the Deputy Assessor. Required to perform a variety of duties related to the appraisal and assessment of real and personal property. Compensation is commensurate with certification level and experience.
TYPICAL DUTIES (Individually or as part of an appraisal team):
- Perform appraisals by viewing and measuring property and structures, which will require walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, talking, seeing, and hearing skills.
- Determine effective age, style, depreciation, and quality of construction of structures and improvements, which will require observation, interpretation, and evaluation skills.
- Evaluate construction, sale data, and neighborhood trends when assisting in the determination of land valuations and economic condition factors.
- Assist with the appraisal of new and partially completed construction and/or improvements.
- Record and verify information on field sheets and data entry forms. Enter information into BS&A Assessing.net database and APEX sketching software.
- Maintain personal property records and perform annual canvas.
- Comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals, including STC manuals, Michigan Compiled Laws, appraisal textbooks, blueprints, maps, aerial photos, etc.
- Comprehend informational documents, including MTT appeal petitions, IFT proposals, Commercial Rehabilitation proposals, Obsolete Property Rehabilitation (OPRA) proposals, STC Bulletins, etc.
- Answer taxpayer/property owner’s questions (in person, over the telephone, or by email) exercising good judgment in communicating information.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT(S) WILL:
- Have attained the age of 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Possess a Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) Certification from the State Tax Commission or a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) Certification and be actively enrolled in a current MCAO program. Continued employment is subject to completion of the MCAO program.
- Be able to understand and follow written and verbal directives.
- Have experience with BS&A Assessing. Net, APEX sketching software, Microsoft Office programs.
- Be able to read and interpret transfer documents including the legal descriptions contained therein.
- Be able to lift and carry boxes of at least 25 pounds.
- Be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Be able to use land measuring equipment and tools, including an engineer scale, plotter, tape measure, etc.
