Membership Categories

Michigan Assessor memberships are individual based, annual memberships which terms are from January through December.   There are three categories of membership:

 
Regular Membership
- Regular Membership available to any employee of any department, commission, board, bureau or agency of the state, county, city, village or township who has duties that are directly concerned with assessment administration in the State of Michigan>
Subscribing Membership
- Subscribing Membership is available to those individuals not eligible for regular membership but interested in assessment administration and the objectives of the Association.
Student Membership
- Student Membership A student member is defined as a person currently enrolled full time in any educational institution or is actively enrolled in a certification program designed to prepare the individual for certification as a Michigan Certified Assessment Technician (MCAT) or Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO). The student member candidate shall petition the membership committee in writing for student membership status by submitting a paid membership application with documentation attesting to enrollment in an educational institution or certification program.
Lifetime Membership
- Lifetime Membership is available to a regular member who retired from active service in assessment administration. Within one (1) year after retirement, the member may petition the Board of Directors in writing for life membership status. This membership is only available by approval of the MAA Board of Directors.
 

 Important Note:  Because membership is based on individuals, memberships follow the individual, regardless of who or what agency paid for the membership.

Legislative Updates

The Michigan Assessors Association's Legislative Committee keeps members informed on pending and proposed legislation affecting property tax administration. The committee also recommends positions on pending legislation, meets with legislators and presents testimony to the House Tax Committee to offer insight and practical revisions and solutions regarding implementation of new laws.  The Association also employs a Legislative Agent who provides advice and guidance on the legislative process as well as facilitating meetings with Legislators and appropriate State Legislative Committees.

MAA Assessor Guides

The Michigan Assessors Association's Standards Committee has developed examples of forms, resolutions and spreadsheets to assist them with the successful administration of their office.  If you have a form, spreadsheet or resolution you would like the MAA Standards Committee consider for distribution to assessors  or have suggestions or questions regarding these resources, please contact the Standard Committee Chair.

Sales Lead Database

The Sales Lead Database is a collaborative effort of the members of the Michigan Assessors Association.  It serves as a repository of commercial and industrial sale for review and use by other members seeking leads for comparable sales.  Sales may be added manually or imported from a comma delimited file.

MAA Message Boards (eBoards)

MAA eBoards is a message center that allows members to discuss issues pertaining to the Michigan Tax Tribunal and Tax Law/Litigation.  Members can also post requests concerning sale comparables and many other general topics of discussion.

The MAA Policies and Procedures Manual is a living document that serves to outline the duties and responsibilities of the Board of Directors and Committees as well as provide a constant standard of operations for current and future elected officers and members.
