Level III Assessment Department (Clerical) Administrative Assistant
Salary: $20.30 hour per the collective bargaining agreement + benefits
Probationary Period: Six months
Opening Date: April 10, 2025

A full-time technical position within the Township’s Assessment Department. The position will be under the general supervision of the Deputy Assessor with duties involving the technical aspects of real and personal property assessment, property exemptions, disabled veteran exemptions, and poverty exemptions as set forth in the General Property Tax (PA 206 of 1893, as amended).
TYPICAL DUTIES (Individually or as part of an appraisal team):
- Preparation of confidential material for Assessment Department and Board of Review.
- Assessment Department Receptionist: answering calls, handling inquiries and/or requests from the public, realtors, residents, scheduling appointments, filing and scanning.
- Process legal documentation, including Board of Review, MTT appeals, and personal property statements.
- Open and prioritize incoming mail, draft answers to routine correspondence, and maintain a tickler system.
- Take minutes of Board of Review meetings and maintain records of meeting minutes.
- Prepare, circulate, and publish legal notices for Board of Review.
- Process poverty exemption applications, disabled veteran exemption applications, and principal residence exemption applications.
- Process property transfer affidavits pursuant to MCL 211.27a and the required policies and procedures set forth by the Michigan State Tax Commission.
- Enter or revise Apex drawings within the BS&A Assessing.net program.
- Download from the Genesee County Register of Deeds any transfer of ownership documents.
- Update ownership and mailing address information in BS&A Assessing.net program.
- Maintain all records relative to duties and responsibilities, as noted.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT(S) WILL:
- Have attained the age of 18 years at the time of application.
- Have general knowledge and experience in record management.
- Possess a minimum MCAT certification and PPE certification within six (6) months of starting employment in the Flint Township Assessment Department.
- Be able to understand and follow written and oral directives.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with the general public and to create a good working relationship with co-workers.
- Possess basic math skills.
- Be familiar with Windows, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
- Be able to read and interpret legal descriptions.
- Shall be able to lift and carry boxes of at least 25 pounds in weight.
- Be able to type 50 words per minute.
