Supervised By: Head Assessor
Supervises: No supervisory responsibility
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Regular Full Time, 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: Competitive Pay Rate Based on Skills and Experience

 

Position Summary:

Green Oak Charter Township is seeking a Residential Property Appraiser, MCAO (or currently enrolled) to assist the Township Assessor in a variety of routine and technical field and office work in the appraisal, preparation, and defense of the Assessment Roll. This is a full-time position with a competitive pay rate based on skills and experience. The compensation package includes health benefits (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, and pension plan.

Green Oak Charter Township is in the southeast corner of Livingston County, MI with an abundance of woodlands, lakes, and streams with approximately 20% of the land area in public parks. The residential real property class is mostly owner occupied with a median housing price of $418,000 and a total State Equalized Value of $2,125,502,736 with 9,355 total parcels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • On-site property inspections
  • Cost valuation of residential property class changes
  • Recognize and analyze market and physical changes related to new construction, demolition, alterations, use and occupancy of the residential class
  • Assist the Assessor in defense of property values, determinations and decisions
  • Personal property tax canvas and processing of taxpayer filings
  • All aspects of assessment administration, as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Position Qualifications:

  • MCAO Certified by the Michigan State Tax Commission (or actively enrolled)
  • 1+ years of assessing experience (minimal experience as an active student will be considered)
  • Familiar with CAMA Software, Apex, BS&A and GIS, WORD, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to research and interpret Michigan Compiled Law
  • Possess an understanding of the 3 approaches to valuation
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong communication skills
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to pass a background check and physical

Supplemental Information
1. Working Hours will be 40 hours a week with a 4-day work week from Monday – Thursday from 7:30AM – 5:30PM. Schedule could be subject to change during certain times of the year and additional hours may be required.
2.
