Employment opportunities are posted on the MAA Website for 30 days.   The Michigan Assessor magazine is published bi-monthly. Publish dates are: February 1, April 1, June 1, August 1, October 1, December 1.

All advertisements  for publication in The Michigan Assessor should be sent to the Editor by the 5th of the month to be included in the following month’s issue (IE. January 5th for the January-February issue).

MMEA Pay Grade 13: $27.56 – $35.09 per hour

 

This position ensures a uniform and accurate appraisal/valuation of real and personal property for the development of the City of Midland assessment roll. The position requires application of technical and specialized knowledge acquired through certification and appraising experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associates’ degree from an accredited college in accounting, business or related field.
  • One year professional experience performing appraisals or similar work.
  • Ability to obtain in a timely manner and maintain certification as a Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (level II) or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of building construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply current zoning and planning ordinances.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and understand property legal descriptions.
  • Proficiency with computer software and understanding of current assessing software. Proficiency in BS&A/Equalization Software preferred. Aptitude to learn and analyze new software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office with emphasis in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, or other office productivity software as determined by the City. Demonstrated experience in utilizing spreadsheets to solve business related problems.
  • Efficient and accurate keyboard and data entry skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to critically assess situations and solve problems. Good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently involving numerical and written data. Strong math skills.
  • Strong diplomacy and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with residents, other City employees, and all others encountered in the course of work.
  • Ability to stay organized and balance many conflicting deadlines. Must be able to work efficiently and meet deadlines promptly, exercising flexibility and adaptability to complete tasks independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both in writing and verbally.
